There are some movies that truly become iconic; that leave a long-term impact on the way we culturally react to the cinematic images that they provide. Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn as Princess Ann and Gregory Peck as Joe Bradley is one such film. It tells the bitter-sweet story of romance between a European Princess and an American news reporter who meet in Rome and while enjoying the city together, fall in love. One of the most familiar "snapshot-picture" summaries of this Oscar winner is of the two main characters sharing an Italian scooter as they race through the crowded and picturesque streets of Rome. This image of a man and woman enjoying the hug of a two-wheeled ride together has become ingrained into the American perspective of Italian courtship. It is such a fun image; I decided to paint Romantic Ride and invite you all to picture yourself on the scooter adventuring with the one you love or at least the one you love to be with. Indeed, if you imagine long enough you may be able to create the picture of your own perfect Roman holiday. A toast to romance and as always, thank you for sharing my adventures in art.
